A new gene affecting the morphogenesis of the vestibular part of the inner ear in the mouse.

چکیده
INTRODUCTION A mutation affecting behaviour occurred in a heterogeneous stock of mice at The Jackson Laboratory in 1956. Genetical tests showed that the mutant gene was semi-dominant with incomplete penetrance, and lethal in the homozygous condition. Further studies established that its effects on the inner ear were different from those of other genes affecting behaviour in a similar manner. It was named 'dancer', and assigned the symbol De. This paper gives the results of the genetical, anatomical and developmental studies carried out, as well as an account of the phenotypical effects of the dancer gene.

Cell Type–Specific Transcriptome Analysis Reveals a Major Role for Zeb1 and miR-200b in Mouse Inner Ear Morphogenesis
Cellular heterogeneity hinders the extraction of functionally significant results and inference of regulatory networks from wide-scale expression profiles of complex mammalian organs. The mammalian inner ear consists of the auditory and vestibular systems that are each composed of hair cells, supporting cells, neurons, mesenchymal cells, other epithelial cells, and blood vessels. We developed a...
متن کاملTBX1 is required for inner ear morphogenesis.
TBX1 is thought to be a critical gene in the pathogenesis of del22q11/DiGeorge syndrome (DGS). Morphological abnormalities of the external ear and hearing impairment (conductive or sensorineural) affect the majority of patients. Here we show that homozygous mutation of the mouse homolog Tbx1 is associated with severe inner ear defects that prevent the formation of the cochlea and of the vestibu...
متن کاملA compendium of mouse knockouts with inner ear defects.
Genetically engineered strains of mice, modified by gene targeting (knockouts), are increasingly being employed as alternative effective research tools in elucidating the genetic basis of human deafness. An impressive array of auditory and vestibular mouse knockouts is already available as a valuable resource for studying the ontogenesis, morphogenesis and function of the mammalian inner ear. T...
متن کاملFactors Associated with Vestibular Disorders in Patients with Sensorineural Hearing Loss Due to Acute Acoustic Trauma: A brief report
Background & Aim: Acute acoustic trauma is an important cause of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Determination of the frequency and contributing factors for vestibular disorders is important, therefore, the current study was performed to assess these factors in patients referred to the ears, nose, and throat (ENT) clinic of one of the hospitals in Tehran, Iran, during the years 2017 to 2019....
متن کاملVestibular evoked myogenic potentials in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune systemic disease. Most common autoimmune diseases are multisystem disorders that may also present with otological manifestations, and autoimmune inner ear disease accompanied by vestibular dysfunction. This study aimed to compare the vestibular function between RA patients and normal subjects using cervical vestibular evoked myogenic...
